What in the Cinnamon Toast is Going On?

Shannon Doherty. Dr. Ruth. Richard Simmons. The Donald Close Call Hologram
Hello there, and welcome to our podcast: “Back to Bed with Susie Bright.”
This is the week of July 19, 2024. If you can consider subscribing, our thanks to you!

The month of July, 2024 will be remembered as a surreal funereal episode of Hollywood Squares. Dr. Ruth, Richard Simmons, Shannon Doherty all died — and Mr. Trump made a mysterious escape.

—All glittering enigmas who never would have flourished without television, and whose lives were utterly different than their performances. POOF.

Honestly? Same.

The media has failed in their coverage of the deceased, and completely evaporated when it comes to Trump, who as of this writing, is mum on the subject of what actually happened to him. When has an “assassination attempt” ever been so opaque? God’s will, baby!

I knew Dr. Westheimer, as a competitor, behind the scenes, at a crucial moment in her career. We parted ways after I reviewed her brush with art history. It’s a tale of two sexperts.

I didn’t know Simmons or Doherty, but I grew up with their doppelgängers when I came of age in the Hollywood colony. There’s a reason Simmons never “came out” as gay, and Doherty survived child actor ruination.

We’ll talk about them all on today’s show, and why I think this particular week in one very hot summer, will be recalled as the moment when the spin machine stopped even trying.
