I miss my dear friend Sally Binford.

So do many people, judging from the mail I get from anthropologists and archeologists all over the world, who want to know more about her legacy.

You see, Sally re-wrote ancient history. Yes, she did.

Sally says, “DO IT!”

Sally was one of the first American women to get a PhD in a completely chauvinist-dominated field, and she revolutionized it.

She was one of the founders of N.O.W., of the Gray Panthers. She was one of the organizers of the first Old Lesbians gathering. She was a crucial member of one of the most influential sexual utopian communities ever, Sandstone.

Sally was always in the thick of it, as an activist, trailblazer, bohemian. She seemed to know everyone in the world who was on the cutting edge of human evolution.

And man, she was a mean Poker player. And, the best French cook I shared a meal with.

When she loved you, she was there, all the way. When she told me she was planning to check out, way ahead of time, she asked me if I disapproved . . . And I said, “Of course not. I agree with you. I’m just going to miss you so much.” And then I cried my head off, when she wasn’t looking.

On today’s podcast, I’ll read her life story in her own words. It’s part 1, and next week, we’ll do part 2!

Sally and her daughter Susan on Chicago’s South Side, early 50s.

‘Til next week, clits up,

Susie
