Why Didn’t My Publisher Record My Book in Audio? —& Where the Heck are the Reviews?

Yes, the author can grab the reins and do something about both predicaments

From a longtime friend and colleague, an experienced author and expert in his field:

I’ve got a question to you, Susie, as a veteran and super-experienced audiobook editor and producer:

My book, ________, was just officially released by The Big 5 Press about three weeks ago. I’d like to get an audio book out soon. How can I make this happen?

I asked my publisher about it and she said a member of her team “has pitched your title to our audio publishers and is hoping to hear that one of them wants to license your work for their audience.” She added that the process takes time and that audio publishers often want to see published reviews before they make an offer.

Is the publisher really so passive that they need to “hope” an audio publisher makes an offer? Perhaps my publishers is too understaffed to do it itself? . But if so, what can I do to make it happen?
