I advise fellow artists about deals. I learned the hard way, and then I became a zealot. I love reading contracts now… weird, right? But you can tell the WHOLE LIFE STORY of the parties involved by understanding the agreements they sign. It’s like peeking in the underwear drawer.

A publishing or production deal will affect the artist for the rest of their lives — it has consequences.

Some of you may scratch, “So what? I’m not writing a book or a screenplay.” Quite! However, the lessons learned from deal-making are like grad school in human negotiation and philosophy for all time. I think you’ll enjoy the odyssey!

This is the opposite of my advice. Sign, yes. Get something. Negotiate like it has consequence. The red dress is up to you.
