This week is the anniversary of Jeffrey Escoffier’s death in 2022, and— DAMMIT!

We still miss him so much. What a mind! What a mischief! What a dear friend and brilliant historian.

I found tapes of my interviews with Jeff when his last book came out, and it was like a beautiful visitation, hearing them all over again.

Jeff would say, “What are we waiting for?”

In these two interviews, we discuss the beginnings of the gay porn-film industry in the late 60s and 70s. Who knew that Stonewall and Deep Throat were preceded by gay filmmakers who had become unsatisfied with beefcake magazines, and unrealistic portrayals of gay life?

We talk about the nature of perversity, the era of “porn chic,” and honest straight guys who do gay porn. Somehow we managed to squeeze in double penetration for the camera tips, why exhibitionists get ahead in the film industry, and finally . . . to condom or not to condom on screen.

All with a socialist feminist point of view, of course.
