Thank you for elaborating on this tale. It’s so much more colorful now!
As I was reading, I reflected upon some of the dives I’ve stayed in and now wonder if maybe those weren’t some form of half—way house, too. I’m positive the Motel 6 in Roseville was full of otherwise homeless people that cold winter when I stayed there a couple of times - the “residents” themselves told me. Apparently the cities decided it was easier and cheaper to rent blocks of rooms than to provide city-owned shelter. Nobody pointed a gun at me, though. At least not that I knew. And I’m positive they didn’t have any e-bikes. Hell, even the vending machines didn’t function.
Yeah, half way houses are not all alike. We have a venerable one in my home neighborhood, and they’re the best of neighbors. No armed gods, etc. Good grief.
Thank you so much for your affection and holding me close! I mean, it was one of those “almost but not quite” situations, where you can see how it could have all gone MUCH WORSE but thank god it didn’t. And since I am a newbie here, it feels good to hear from old friends. It’s relevant just to think about all the various connections . . .
Susie, thank you for role modeling how to stay cool under pressure and avoid the womanhandling --or worse. Had to read through twice to notice that this happened in New York, not here in our little hometown. Stay safe!
I certainly don’t accept the premise that we have to have guns in our faces. But I do accept the premise that this is us. We have to face us. We are not OK. Love to you love to all.
I'm so sorry this happened to you, Susie -- and so glad your friends and hosts rallied around you. There's such a deep undercurrent of violence in this society, one that sometimes bubbles to the surface in unexpected places. And this is a "halfway" house? Halfway from what to what?
Ugh, I'm sorry that happened to you. So fucked up!

Only you could suss out that kind of trouble! 😈
I don't want anything to ever happen to you; truly frightening - I am glad your friends were there for afterwards trauma debrief
Oh Susie, how awful!!! I’m glad that you have good people helping you to recover. And that you did not let it stand.

Wait, you liked Tangerine better than Anora? So sorry you went through this. Flying back to the shit today, ready for May Day.
