My God Susie. This simultaneously dragged me under and inspired me - somewhat like we get inspired to push up for air when the ocean wave knocks us down. It is powerful, you can feel the destruction, it evokes fear of family loss in me, empathy for all the Bettis, and respect for all that you evoked with fewer than 1000 words.

I would like to be writing short stories full time . . . When you get to be our age, you have so many stories haunting around all the corners just asking to be stitched together.

Wow, Susie, that had all the feels. Short stories might be your long suit. Something so short should not have the ability to reel me in like that but there it is.
