Passing reference to JG Ballard’s Atrocity Exhibition noted. Used to be called dystopian. Now it’s just the news. Bardot’s bare bum was the first one I saw, my dad’s Playboy. I was 10. Happy to learn they came in all shapes, sizes, and colors.

Yes to Ballard. Should I link that? I’ll do it. Interesting story on the US distributors of Contempt were so angry that Godard didn’t include her nudity in the Final Cut, they predicated their distribution deal on him adding other scene.

I kind of like atrocity exhibition as an Easter egg. I use it every couple of years when appropriate. I think his original obsession was the JFK assassination, or rather, atrocity exhibit alpha.

Hey, should I re-record the podcast portion? THe car noise is unbearable. Or is it? I can’t decide. I have stretched my “seat of the pants” recording tricks too far, perhaps. It’s too bad, because I like to talk in the car to myself!

I wish the justice served in (some) fiction could possibly happen... but knowing this too shall pass and things will continue to slide further into the gaping mouth of fascism... makes me feel even more Contempt. Cynicism. Wrath.

So glad you finally spoke out. I have to say I’ve watched any number of men who start out nice and get sucked into the vortex of these same forces. It’s not pretty from any angle.

My perspective is based upon reflecting upon a culture that celebrates masculinity and diminishes femininity. That takes a toll on both men and women while the culture circles ever more toward hypermasculinity and ultimate toxic masculinity. This has been going on for decades, centuries, even longer. We can’t easily address it, not even with laws. As a gay man I feel it, though not in the same way as women, to be sure. I have, however, watched many men discover the rewards only go to the hypermasculine and modify their behaviors to reap those reward. I see that as profoundly sad, yet it’s quite understandable how they arrive there.

I do not think there is a quick fix, and there may not be any fix at all, unless it is for every one of us to begin celebrating the feminine and holding it up as desirable. No more women who get recognized for out-butching the men in movies, or the 90 pound girl who takes down the hulk. Instead, let’s celebrate the virtues and strengths of the feminine. Maybe we could take some lessons from groups where the feminine is powerful.

It ain’t gonna happen overnight, if it’s possible at all.
