Last month I was interviewed extensively about the Criterion release of Bound, and every journalist asked me, “What do you think of Love Lies Bleeding?”

I had to scramble, making excuses for why I was still uninitiated in the summer’s most talked-about film. Thank goodness I wasn’t televised, so they couldn’t see me blush.

I should have reviewed it on day one. Here’s a film, starring Kristen Stewart, Katy O’Brien, and Ed Harris as a first-class psycho. It’s a lesbian crime thriller, a neo-noir, shot in New Mexico’s material poverty and natural beauty.

Why had I been dragging my heels?
