Great column! The Mitfords are back, did you see that Mimi Pond is doing a graphic novel about that brood?

I’ll find one—it hasn’t been published yet but she’s been previewing it on Facebook.

Once again, you have rightly showed me that I don't read as much as I think I do, and that I don't watch significant television offerings. In other words, I'm teetering on the edge of being jejune as fuck.

The Mitford tale reminds me of the film "The Remains of the Day" in which James Fox's Lord Darlington and his fellow aristocrats believe fascism to be just what the British Empire needs. Yet clearly I have some viewing and reading to accomplish.

“Jejeune as Fuck” is a helluva memoir title for someone

Who knows? Depending on how my therapy progresses, that someone might be me.

If not a memoir title, then the name of my upcoming fragrance line.

Here you go—I guess it’s been printed because I see Mimi Pond is on the Convention path, from San Diego to Columbus—

“This constant lying is not aimed at making the people believe a lie, but at ensuring that no one believes anything anymore.

A people that can no longer distinguish between truth and lies cannot distinguish between right and wrong. And such a people, deprived of the power to think and judge, is, without knowing and willing it, completely subjected to the rule of lies.

With such a people, you can do whatever you want.”

So, re: the new Emmy nominations:

I have a new vibe this year. It’s this: I don’t doubt the heavily-nominated hits are worthy— they’re just not my cuppa. Yes, I’m talking to you: Severance, White Lotus, The Studio. No diss to them, only my apathy. I’m not going to analyze it.

The benefit of golden-era-TV, of so much competition, is we’ve become ultra-choosy. I don’t *have to* become a reluctant fan of anything.Weirdos and niche interests triumph in this era, although the hitch is many of our slim favorites are not “pulling enough money” to keep going.

My faves among the nominees, are due to their heightened originality, innovation in the medium. The writing has to be incandescent. In short, I can’t believe they got made. They are politically subversive in sneaky ways. That’s my high bar!

1. The Pitt

2. Somebody Somewhere

3. Dying for Sex

In the “Old Reliable” category— shows I never miss even though they’re not groundbreaking— I’d add:

Nobody Wants This, (Maybe a great romcom really IS original?)

Abbott Elementary, (My parents were public school teachers)

Slow Horses (The first season was the breakthrough, but I’ll hang in forever)

What about you? And who got snubbed altogether, do you think?
