My So-Called Life in the Sex Business, Part 1
Reporter, Underground Usurper, Pornographer, Professor?
I’ve often thought of writing a memoir of my years in the sex wars, the sex biz, the erotic underground, the academic side of sexual anthropology.
But here’s the thing: one day, spontaneously, I told the whole story out loud, and someone very prescient caught it on tape. (Thank you, Jacqui).
In 2011, I was invited to a Washington, DC convention of feminist entrepreneurs and sex bloggers, women who wanted to put “clits first,” in what was then a burgeoning erotic retailer world. I could hardly believe such a thing existed, but hundreds of people showed up!
My comrade and friend, Tristan Taormino, who is probably the one person in the world with whom I’ve shared the same trenches, were asked to give a talk, officially titled: "Making Waves in Sexuality, Feminism & Relationship Through New Media."
Yawn.
That’s not we talked about. I told my life story in sex, and so did TT.
There was no script, we didn’t have notes. It just RIPPED. We have good chemistry. ;-)
