An itty bitty lobster, a pinch of saffron, and what else is there?

Welcome to the gluttonous world of Spot Prawns. I didn’t know what they were, until a couple years ago, when I joined my local fishery co-op. It is wonderful to be eating out of the Monterey bay, the best fish ever.

Spot Prawns, if you’re as curious as I was, are extra-big, extra-tasty prawns, more like itty-bitty lobsters.

You could eat them right out of the shell and be thrilled. But of course I started fooling around with them.

Grilled on the Barbie with lemon and avocado. DONE!

Let me present: “Saffron Anchovy Spot Prawn de l’Orange.” I made a massive bowl of these over the weekend, sucking the meat out, plated on fettuccine.
