This is the first year since I became a mom that a staycation felt like a vacation. Both our teenage children are away for spring break— it’s just me and my husband.
When it’s the two us, there is a different light on the day. There’s no performance, such as “leading by example,” or showing the kids new things.
We’re doing things to show ourselves.
What shall we do with this “one wild and precious life,” as Mary Oliver put it?
Eat popcorn chicken and watch samurai movies.
The un-exemplary life is more than popcorn chicken of course— we’re spending our spring break eating out like NorCal Jonathan Gold(s). We began the tour at our new bakery in the redwood hamlet of Felton, The Grove.
You guys, we have a winner. I expected it to be good, but their food is exceptional. —Well worth a drive from the greater Bay Area.
