From the Blue Ridge Mountains to You
Your Friend in a Foxhole — Insight from the Asheville Flood Plain
UPDATE, 10/1/24 -
Jon, my partner, made it out today, and is safe with his siblings in Washington DC. Our thoughts and support are with all the dear friends he made during his time in Asheville. We’re with you.
My husband, Jon, has been caught in the consequences of Hurricane Helene, in Asheville, North Carolina.
I have a few things to say . . . And thank you first, to Steve Harsin, for helping me publish this video today!
RESOURCES
99.9 “KISS Country Radio” = 24/7 Local Community News
Studio Line: 828-240-5477 — priority for local callers or people with help for locals.
There is no one covering the unfolding story like these folks. They are a lifeline.
Twitter “Asheville”
Next to the 99.9 radio station I listed above, Twitter has best breaking news on Asheville and flood areas. If you “follow” me, https://x.com/susiebright, you’ll see LOADS of relevant news, and then you can figure it out from there.
Yes, we know “X” is absurd, but it’s kinda working in instances like this. Follow reliable sources. Ignore the Russian bots. Figure it out.
Fuck You List
Fuck Facebook. They are throttling the weather news. You cannot reliably post or search for breaking news, except in “private groups” of families and friends. Even some of those are being censored and “paused.” My god. I’ll keep using Stack for the big updates.
Fuck MSM headlines and corporate news overlords. They’ve been a complete fail on climate change and Hurricane Helene. COMPLETE FAIL. I’m not talking about individual reporters, I’m talking about their owners. I’ve been a journalist and broadcaster since 1974 (Vietnam era) and I’ve never seen such deliberate news blackout. “The world ended,” so to speak, and the Times was busy covering RFKJr.’s peccadillos.

ELECTION
This unfolding climate disaster makes our upcoming elections at risk in Tennessee, the Carolinas, Northern Florida, and Georgia. What are we going to do about it? I’d like to hear your ideas.
There’s so many pieces to it all. For one, there’s no “mailing in” a ballot, because there’s no mail delivery. The normal polling places might be under water. Etc. Who’s going to count? Who’s going to certify?
New conspiracy theory: Trump sent this hurricane from Florida to North Carolina to create election consternation! 😂😂
The "MSM" ( I'd just call it "the media") seems to be covering this pretty thoroughly. Much more after-the-storm footage, and airtime, than other hurricanes.
