I do remember where I was when I first read Bastard Out Of Carolina - I was young young, homeless in LA. A crazy guy had taken me in and his parents, I think in an effort to seperate us a little, asked me to housesit while they were away. His mom had just finished reading Bastard Out Of Carolina (she called it a "human interest" story, so entertaining) so I read it while she was gone and wondered if she saw me as a bastard out of Alaska.
What an amazing way to celebrate such an incredible writer. Now to dig out my copy and reread and remember how revolution it felt at the time. Thanks Susie, and DO post photos of the red dress!!
I'm going to scream for 15 minutes because I can't be there for this. Thank you for honoring an amazing writer, and for the wonderful photos you share.

Sounds fun!
Will this be on zoom?
I’m not sure.

Here’s a wonderful story from Blanche McCrary Boyd, about how she and Dorothy first met: https://blanche.substack.com/p/honoring-dorothy-allison

I better hear it, or you’ll know what’s coming!
If I can get out there, can I read too?
CHRIST YES
Oh Susie, I’m so glad that you’re doing this!!! I wish I could teleport there!
Last week, I heard from Mississippi Quarterly—my article with the alternate endings will be in their next issue. I’ll keep you posted!
I’m so happy to hear this. So glad we persevered, especially YOU
